Azerbaijan Military Academy was
established in 1939 and was called as Baku High Infantry Commanders School.
Baku High Infantry Commanders School was subordinated to Republic of Azerbaijan
in May, 1992. In order to meet the needs of the Armed Forces of the newly
established republic of Azerbaijan, the school was converted to Baku High Joint
Commanders School (BHJCS). Since 1997 the admission and teaching in Baku High
Joint Commanders School have been implemented in accordance with contemporary
standarts. In order to be admitted to School candidates between ages 17 and 19
who have completed secondary school education sit an exam on mathematics,
physics, Azerbaijan history, Azerbaijan language and literature at the State
Commission for University Admissions. According to the plan approved by the
minister of Defense the candidates who have scored high are admitted to School.
According to the decree of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan dated
20.08.2001 Baku High Joint Commanders School was renamed as Azerbaijan High
Military School. By the decree of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan
dated March10, 2004 Azerbaijan High Military School was entitled with the name
of our national leader Heydar Aliyev. Currently officers are being prepared on
23 military branches in 21 departments of 4 faculties at Azerbaijan Military
Academy named After Heydar Aliyev. The graduates of the school are rewarded
with a bachelor diploma and rank of “lieutenant” according to their branches.
